Translate moves geometry linearly in 3D space along specified axes. Use Translate for repositioning components, constructing assembly layouts, preparing bodies for boolean operations, and establishing part relationships.
Options
Objects
Select the bodies or sketches to move. You can move multiple things at once.
X, Y, Z Distance
How far to move along each axis. Values are in your current units (mm, inches, etc.). Positive values move in the + direction, negative values go the opposite way.
Global Coordinates
Enable (default) to move in the world coordinate system. Disable to move relative to the object's own local orientation.
Design Applications
Component Positioning
Precisely locate parts in assembly space:
- Position mounting brackets at specific coordinates
- Space components with exact clearances
- Align parts to assembly datums
Pattern Creation
Combine with parametric variables to create linear arrays:
- Distribute fastener holes at regular intervals
- Create tool paths for machining operations
- Generate architectural element spacing
Construction Geometry
Offset construction references for feature creation:
- Position sketch planes at specific heights
- Create offset datums for measurement
- Establish reference frames for subsequent operations
