Introduction

This page provides a set of feature spotligth videos for some of Zoo Design Studio's core modeling features. These videos are intended to be a quick reference both for those users who are unfamiliar with existing CAD systems, and for those users who are familiar with other CAD software, but new to Zoo Design Studio.

Extrude

Use Extrude to pull a 2-D sketch straight out into 3-D, creating a solid of a specified length.

Loft

Use Loft to blend two or more sketches along a path, producing smooth, free-form shapes such as wing sections or tapered piping.

Revolve

Use Revolve to spin a sketch around an axis, generating rotationally-symmetrical parts like cylinders, shafts, or bottles.

Sweep

Use Sweep to carry a sketch along a chosen path—ideal for pipes, rails, or cables that follow complex trajectories.

Fillet

Use Fillet to round edges or face intersections, easing machining and reducing stress concentrations.

Chamfer

Use Chamfer to bevel edges, removing sharp corners and adding lead-ins for safer handling or easier assembly.

Cut

Use Cut to remove material and create holes, slots, or pockets in an existing solid.

Subtract

Use Subtract to carve one solid out of another, forming cavities or negative-space details.

Union

Use Union to merge multiple solids into a single, continuous body.

Intersect

Use Intersect to keep only the shared volume of selected solids—useful for finding common geometry.

Pattern

Use Pattern to copy features or bodies in linear, circular, or custom arrays for repetitive elements such as holes or ribs.

Shell

Use Shell to hollow out a solid, leaving a uniform wall thickness for lightweight parts or enclosures.

Helix

Use Helix to create helical curves or solids for threads, coil springs, and similar features.

Translate and rotate

Use Translate and Rotate to move or re-orient parts and features precisely in 3-D space—handy for assembly positioning.

Clone

Use Clone to duplicate a solid or sketch while preserving its parametric link to the original.
