Distance dimensions define controlled spacing between points, lines, and other sketch entities. Use them to size profiles, preserve offset relationships, and communicate measured design intent as the sketch regenerates.

Create a distance dimension by selecting a line when you want to control that segment's length, or by selecting two points or references when you want to control the spacing between them. Double-click an existing dimension label to edit its value.

Adding a Dimension to a Line

The Distance tool can control the measured length of a selected sketch segment.

Adding a distance dimension to a line

Distance dimensions can control the length of a selected sketch line

Adding Dimensions to a Rectangle

Use the Distance tool to add width and height dimensions to a closed four-sided profile.

Adding dimensions to a rectangle

Add dimensions to rectangular profiles to control width and height

This section covers the primary distance dimension types used in Zoo Design Studio: Vertical Distance, Horizontal Distance, and Absolute Distance.

Vertical and horizontal distance dimensions control offset along the sketch axes, which is useful for layout-driven geometry and fully defined profiles. Absolute distance controls the direct separation between references when the design intent depends on true point-to-point measurement instead of axis- aligned spacing.
