Use Hole to create intelligent circular cut features driven by explicit hole geometry parameters rather than manually sketching each pocket. Hole features are parametric, supporting industry-standard configurations for clearance holes, threaded holes, counterbores, and countersinks.

Options

Face

Select the flat face where you want to place the hole. The hole will be drilled perpendicular to this face.

Hole Location

Specify the X,Y coordinates for the hole center on the selected face, measured in the face's local coordinate system.

Hole Depth Type

Choose how deep the hole goes:

  • Blind - Stops at a specified depth
  • Through - Goes completely through the part

Blind Depth

If you chose "Blind" above, specify how deep to drill from the face surface.

Hole Diameter

The diameter of the main cylindrical hole.

Hole Type

Choose the hole configuration:

  • Simple - Just a basic hole
  • Counterbore - Has an enlarged upper section for socket-head screws
  • Countersink - Has a conical upper section for flat-head screws

Counterbore Depth

For counterbored holes, how deep the enlarged section goes. Should fit the fastener head height plus a bit of clearance.

Counterbore Diameter

For counterbored holes, the diameter of the enlarged section. Must be bigger than the main hole and should match the fastener head.

Countersink Angle

For countersunk holes, the included angle of the cone. Common values:

  • 90° - ISO standard flat-head screws
  • 82° - ANSI standard flat-head screws
  • 100° or 120° - Aerospace applications

Countersink Diameter

For countersunk holes, the diameter at the surface. Should match or slightly exceed the fastener head diameter.

Hole Bottom

For blind holes, choose the bottom shape:

  • Flat - Flat bottom (typical for end mill drilling)
  • Drill Point - Conical tip like a twist drill makes

Drill Point Angle

If you chose "Drill Point" above, specify the cone angle. Standard angles:

  • 118° - General purpose (steel, aluminum)
  • 135° - Self-centering (harder materials)

Fastener Clearance Guidelines

For clearance holes, add 0.2-0.5mm to the nominal screw size:

  • M3 screw → 3.2-3.4mm hole
  • M5 screw → 5.3-5.5mm hole
  • 1/4" bolt → 0.266"-0.281" hole
