UnionUnion
Use Union to combine multiple solid bodies into a single continuous, manifold solid. Union merges overlapping and adjacent bodies, creating a unified part suitable for manufacturing, analysis, or further modeling operations.
Options
Solids
Select two or more solid bodies to merge into a single body. The result will:
- Contain all the volume from the input solids
- Have no internal boundaries where bodies overlapped
- Be a single piece ready for manufacturing
Bodies don't need to touch to be unioned, but if they don't overlap you'll get a multi-piece result.
Design Applications
Feature Consolidation
Combine multiple modeled features into a single body:
- Merge bosses and ribs onto base geometry
- Consolidate weldment components
- Unite separately-designed sections of complex parts
Assembly Simplification
Convert multi-body assemblies into single-part representations:
- Create monolithic castings from multi-piece designs
- Generate 3D printing models from assembled components
- Simplify part counts for manufacturing
Boolean Workflows
Union is often used in combination with other boolean operations:
- Create multiple base features separately
- Union them into a single body
- Use Subtract to remove unwanted volumes
- Apply finishing operations (fillets, chamfers) to the unified geometry
